Taco Tuesday is the bee's knees. Having been on the Yucatan peninsula recently, I can say they are very authentic. A little heavy on the salt for my taste, not a deal breaker. Margarita pitchers for $22 is almost obscene. Shannon is a great waitress, by the way.
The food is good but they need to improve on their Salsa
Good food and ambiance but long wait and slow service
Nice and quiet on an early Saturday afternoon! Food was good! Very well seasoned and tasty! Drinks were quite good as well
Never eating here again! Came in with a group of 30 which we made reservations for. The tables were not set up properly when we arrived, They took over an hour to get our food orders. By the time the last table got there food the first table had already finished eating for awhile already! They gave us ONE server for our entire PARTY an ONE food runner. That's absolutely ridiculous!!! Our waitress was very nice and kept apologizing for the EXTREMELY long wait however the way they served our party was less then professional. They also charged us a $20 cake for holding the cake, which they didn't even refrigerate because it was room temperature when they brought it out, They gave us a limited amount of plates so 3 people had to eat off of 1 cake plate. This place is horrible at least 50% of our 30 person party will NOT eat here again.
Mediocre Mexican food. There's unlimited chips and salsa though. And a good bar
I went there a week ago because i was in vacation from Arizona and i wanted to feel the mexicam ambient. ..i really like it. ..the food is delicious. .the people who work there is really nice and the place is beautiful. ..
Very friendly, helpful and considerate wait staff. No waiting. Typical Amer-Mexican food choices. Popular Latin & merengue music playing in background. Comfortable & attractive setting. Nice to find this place not far from Waikiki, not crowded, on busline & convenient.
Food was disappointing, service was slow, obnoxiously loud atmosphere
I just ordered from their restaurant with Aloha To Go, I got my notification the driver was heading my way and not even 5 minutes later my driver shows up at my apartment. I open my food and it was colder than my exgirlfriend's heart, the tortilla in my burrito was not warm at all and there was a lack of shrimp in my burrito and they put more tomatoes in my burrito that I thought about making tomato soup with them.. well not even the cheese in my burrito was melted (that would have been a sign that it was hot at one point in time).. This is the first time this has happened with this restaurant when I order, but I will seriously think about it twice before ordering from them.. ohh well McDonald's it is for tonight..
The decor alone is worth a visit. The walls are covered with amazing artifacts from all over Mexico, along with a sense of humor. The service wasn't great but the food was pretty good. The hardest part of Mexico Cantina is locating it. The restaurant is on the second floor of a shopping area (that Google Maps misidentified) so we had to ask for help to find it. Three phone calls later we found the place. The portions were enough to satisfy my appetite but that's not saying much considering I'm not a big eater. Their salsa was pretty good but needed a little kick for my taste. They have a bar area that is roughly half the size of the entire restaurant so they must have some really good parties there. The menu was your typical Mexican selection of tacos, burritos, steak and similar items all served with beans and rice. I enjoyed the scenery inside the place but the food needed a bit more spice.
Great food. Wonderful atmosphere. ❤️
Nice interior, sometimes they close early so cAll ahead to make sure u don't make the trip for no reason
Very affordable, huge drinks, huge plates, great taste, great service, and great laid-back atmosphere. We had a bit of a wait which was completely fine and very well worth it. Just found my new go to for Mexican food and drinks
Good food.. tasty and quantity also good
I really wanted to like this place!!! The hostess and server were great for the very short period of time we spent there tonight. Unfortunately a quarter of the way through our expensive rubbery appetizer we spotted a massive RAT under a table next to us... a RAT! Sorry guys, time to make some serious changes!
This was the worst Mexican food I have ever eaten. The tamale was hard! How do you make a hard tamale? Very dry like cement and way too salty. Beans and rice were also too salty. Don't go there to eat.
Awesome food awesome staff love this place the happy hour margaritas are fantastic and reason enough to stop in but please eat its yummy food
Nice atmosphere and beautiful decorations. Good options of Mexican beers. We had some guacamole and it was great. It was also nice that they prepare it in front of you.
This place is expensive, the Horchata taste like it was made with poor ingredients. The "authentic" tacos were pretty garbage, the tacos were not fully cooked. The taco fell apart as soon as I picked it up. I've had better tacos from taco food stands. If you're a Mexican, and grew up eating real Mexican food. Don't expect Grade-A authentic Mexican food. Besides food quality, everything else was fine.
Sad chiles rellanos left me with a feeling the chef pulled them out of a jar and threw them into oil with minimal effort at breading or flavor. Only the refried beans had any taste, and they were like a brown pool oozing over half of the enormous plate. If you're looking for large portions of prison-grade food, look no further!
It's ok. Wouldn't say the best Mexican food I had. Wait time was good. Waiter service could be better. Ate all my chips. Before main course and drank my beverage. Waiter could have asked for a reload.
Good food.
The food was ok, but really expensive for what you are getting. The decor, service, and view made it somewhat worth it though.
The service is excellent - staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food is fresh and portions are large. The bar serves great drinks, particularly margaritas, and prices are decent. Itʻs a great place for dining with a group of friends.
First time at this restaurant, which is spacious and has a good, convenient location. Went for the seafood taco station at $4 per taco with a choice of fish, scallop, or shrimp and your choice of condiments. The reason for the two stars is: 1. Beer order was slow (arrived after I got my tacos) and the beer was not cold. 2. General lack of good, yummy color/carmelization on all of my food (specifically the tortillas, seafood, flautas, and mushroom skillet). 3, Little to no heat nor spice in the condiments, particularly the salsa, all of which were bland. 4. My taco order was not included in the 10% Yelp check-in discount(!).
If you’re in the area and you’re looking for some great Mexican food, I recommend the Mexico Cantina. Items to order?! They make the BEST table-side guacamole, which is made to taste right at your table side; the shrimp ceviche is another top pick with a great portion for two; the refried beans and the salsa verde (green salsa) with the freshly fried tortilla chips are definitely items I really enjoy. The staff is ALWAYS courteous and they will do anything in their power to accommodate you.
Staff gave us an inaccurate wait time and after waiting 2 hours and being told we needed to wait another 2, we cut our losses and left. If you go to this place, definitely make a reservation. But even then, you still aren't guaranteed a table since they are known to cancel reservations.
They raised the prices on the menu. Again. Before, paying $12 for a mediocre fajita salad was tolerable. Now paying $16 for the same mediocre fajita salad is insulting. Free chips and salsa! Just kidding, It used to be free. But don't worry, they don't tell you. If you like paying $14 for 2 and a half avacados and some diced tomato (but they make it table side!) then this is totally the place for you.
Oahu has a poor selection of mexican food, and this is no exception. The atmospere is good but food and service are mediocre.
Guacamole made fresh in front of you.
Great service and food 👌👌✌🏻✌🏻
Excellent service, table side guacamole authentic. Carne asada is very good. Ceviche is absolutely fantastic. Have eaten here many times.
Love the food. Great location.
Would not eat here again. Dishes were filthy! Three different dishes all came out with dried up food stuck on them. The food was just okay at best. Disappointing considering Mexico restaurant recommended we come here to their "sister restaurant" since their grill was down. Oh well live and learn.
This place is actually fairly decent. We are from Texas so we know our texmex. Portions are huge, we all took leftovers home. Flavor was good and wait staff was excellent. Bent over backwards to make sure my sister (allergic to onions) food was onion free. We would come back!
Love the ambience . Food was fair and pricy. I had their chicken tacos which was ok. Our waiter was friendly and accommodating.
The food was good. Americanized Mexican food with a little bit of Hawaiian twist.Service and ambience was good too.I cut off a star because queso dip could be better.. it was essentially melted cheese that solidified in a few minWould go there again
One of our favorite places in Honolulu! Bartenders Nicole and Eric are amazing, as is the rest of staff. Liquor choices, view, and food is spot on.
An adorably perky waitress was very attentive and the decor was very intriguing but the food is less than noteworthy for the excessive price. Everything costs extra but you need to spend another ten dollars to make your eighteen dollar meal edible. The chicken is dry, they skimp on sauce, and there's very little flavor. Again, amazing service but the food isn't worth the price.
If you just want to drink... this place would be fine... great atmosphere and decor... but... the food is HORRIBLE ! I asked for onions and cilantro in my tacos and our waitress( maybe she was new) said they were in there... they were NOT❣️Also ordered a Cadillac Margarita... NO gran marnier in there❣️She said it was😜The taco shells are NOT handmade... and they were so bad that I didn't eat them... salsa is not very good either❣️The refried beans were the only decent thing there❣️ Unless you want to drink your lunch... don't bother!
I appreciate the relaxing and authentic decor of the Mexico cantina. Had tacos, delicious, The happy hour is great, my server Cedric was amazing, very acomidating, and the bar always kept my drinks full. Would recommend to those who seek something alil different in Oahu.
Tool 1 1/2 to get seated. Really hot inside no ventilation or open windows and the food was below average
They made us wait 10 min to be seated when the restaurant is 1/4 full. We are told there's no more free chips and salsa. And then we are told the kitchen ran out of cheese..... And to top it all off the iced tea tastes terrible. Leaving before this joke of a restaurant takes any more money from us.Do NOT come here.
Carnitas is how I judge a Mexican restaurant and there are precious few in Hawaii that make them properly! This is one of them!Perfect crunch and seasoning. Not Kalua Pork that masquerades as Carnitas. Great happy hour and one of the best bartenders, Kyle Collins, on the island! Taco Tuesday is a dream. Must try
Food is great, unless you get served by a guy who had a huge crop of disgusting raised moles on his neck. Gross! The management should advise him to get it fixed!
Okay, one delicious margarita down and working on another, this place is a great find for tourists who shopped till they almost dropped. Finishing the second margarita should do it. Guac ok, salsa very good, dinners look good but we have other plans. Worth the search. 5 stars for the drinks and great service.
Great looking place and nice staff. just still looking for real Mexican food.
